RNZFB Board Elections Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is eligible to vote?

Only governing members of Blind Low Vision NZ are eligible to vote.

2. How do I found out if I’m a governing member?
Please call our National Contact Centre on 0800 24 33 33 – they can tell you whether you’re a Governing Member and can sign you up to become one if you’re not.
3. Is there an age limit to becoming a governing member?
There is no age limit.  If you are 16 years or older they can vote yourself.

Younger clients (0-15 years) can have a custodial guardian / parent vote on their behalf, the client will be registered as a governing member.

4. What are the benefits to being a Governing member?

As a governing member, you have a voice that influences the direction of Blind Low Vision NZ.  You can attend roadshows; receive the Board Chair’s newsletter; take part in planning the Foundation’s future; attend the Annual General Meeting; vote in the Board elections and consider standing as a candidate in the Board elections.

5. How can I cast my vote?

There are a number of ways to cast your vote including print, braille, Telephone Information Service (TIS), Telephone Dictation Voting (TDV) as well as online voting

6. How do I confirm my voting preference?

Please call our National Contact Centre on 0800 24 33 33 by Friday 17 September to confirm your voting preference.  You can also update your voting preference online, by visiting https://rnzfbelections.org.nz/update-preferred-format-details/.

7. When does voting open?

Voting opens on Thursday 7 October 2021 and runs through until 4:00pm on Friday 5 November. For those who prefer voting by print or braille, or have chosen TIS or TDV, your voting papers will be sent out in your preferred format on Thursday 7 October.

And for those voting online this year, you will receive an email with your voting ID before this date.

8. What do I need to vote online?
Voting online is simple – all you need is an internet connection and an e-mail address.

  1. Visit the RNZFB elections website: https://rnzfbelections.org.nz/
  2. Enter your username and voting ID.
  3. Select the candidates you’re voting for.
  4. Click submit.
9. What is test voting?
To show you how simple it is, we’ve created a test voting section on the RNZFB elections website.

  1. Visit https://rnzfbelections.org.nz/test-form/
  2. Enter the test voting ID which is 12345
  3. Select the candidates you’re voting for.
  4. Click submit.
10. When will the results of the elections be announced?

The new Board will be announced on Saturday 13 November at the Annual General Meeting in Tauranga and will be announced on TIS later that day.
